windows update catalogue

I am logged in as an administrator and want to set up windows update to find
hardware driver updates but the option to do so is greyed out and i cannot
select it. does anyone know how i can set this up?

I am trying to install new drivers to solve the problem that XP will not
reboot or shutdown.

Neil;
As long as you are able to get other updates OK, don't worry about it.
Instead it is best to get drivers directly from the hardware manufacturers
website.
They will be the latest available that way.
