Windows Update Cause Problems with Office Small Business 2007

Windows Updates were installing automatically on 10/10/07. After they
finished installing, none of my Microsoft Office Small Business 2007
Shortcuts worked. None of the programs were available through the
Start/Programs/Menu. Files made w/ those programs still open with the correct
program, but the icons have changed to the generic windows icon. I got an
error message code 80070658, but can't find any information on what it means
or on how to repair the problem. My virus scan says I had no viruses, but it
was unable to scan two files which are corrupted files in the office suite
(c:\windows\installer\{9112000-00a1-0000-0000000ff1ce} and
C:\Windows\Installer\{91120000-00ca-0000-0000-0000000ff1ce}
I was unable to repair, re-install, uninstall the Office the program using
the original disk or from Control Panel - it simply won't let me do anything.
It runs its course like it is doing it and then announces it was not
successful. I believe these files were corrupted during the Windows Update
process. Seven updates were attempted that morning, and one of them failed
(maybe the cause of the problems?). It was Update for Outlook Junk Email
Filter 2007 (KB942575).
Anyone got any ideas on a fix? (Windows Vista Ultimate/Sony Vaio/Intel Core
2 CPU, 2 GHz, 2046 MB RAM, 32 bit Operating system)

I too have the same problem.. XP SP2 Toshiba..this is the only update not
installing. What is the command to stop the update log? Net stop? net
start?

iyogi tried to help me with this and tried to install onto various machines
and they too had lots of problem when it would not install on 7 computers.
They said they determined that the download could be corrupted and they said
they are contacting Microsoft. thats what they said
