Windows Update caused error in card reader software

I ran windows update a couple of weeks ago. It brought up a software update
for my USB multi-card reader/writer. But after I installed the software, the
reader will not work anymore. The computer doesn't even recognize the reader.
I've tried to update it again by searching for another driver, but that
hasn't worked. I tried uninstalling the software that I have, but it will not
uninstall because the computer needs the reader to be plugged into it, but it
won't recognize it when it is plugged in. Can you help me fix this problem?
