Windows Update-Continually Scans "Checking for the latest updates.

I have managed to manually install the Windows Update Client, but when I
navigate to windowsupdate.microsoft.com and click "custom" it starts and
continually scans the system, like its in some loop.

Are there workarounds for this as I'd like to update this W2K SP4 machine
tonight.
