Windows Update / Defender

I install the windows defender software. My OS is Win XP Pro.

Have been unable to update any software since.

Ever since the Defender has been in my system it has been running slower and
erractic does anyone have a cure for this problem other then reinstalling my
whole OS

Go to Add/Remove Programs in the Control Panel.
Click on Windows Defender, then click the Change button
Click Next
Put a mark next to Update Windows Defender, click Next
Click Install
Afterwards, restart the system

OR, click this link to obtain the latest defintions file -
http://au.download.windowsupdate.com...eea8fc5451.exe
Save it to the Desktop, close the browser, and then run mpas-d.exe by
double clicking it.

The reason why the defs are not installing *may* be due to
corruption/damage in the WINDOWS\Software Distribution\Download folder.
Suggest deleting all contents of the *Download* folder.
