My windows update has stopped working. When attempting to get to the Windows
Update page at Microsoft it returns an error. "Network policy settings
prevent you from using Windows Update...". (Error 0x8ddd003). Help on the
says that my network policy settings prevent me from using Windows Update.
I'm a simple user at home with XP Home. Any clue how to clear the block in
the policy settings?

I couldn't get to the Windows Update site after installing XP & tried
everything. Then I found the error number on this Newsgroup. Mine was
0x8DDD004 & seems like when installing I changed things in the Add On
Manager. Worth a try. This worked for me & I can now load the Update page.

Seems I had inadvertently messed with my Add-On management. The
WuWebControlClass was disabled. I enabled it this way:

In Tools,Manage Add-Ons... make sure your WuWebControlClass entry is listed
under the Enabled section. If it's under Disabled, find the radio button for
Enable, and enable it!. Fixed me up quick!

Hi

Start/Run ==> regedit.exe

Under the registry key
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion
\Policies\Explorer

delete the value "NoWindowsUpdate" if it exist.

Under the registry key
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion
\Policies\Windows Update

delete the value "DisableWindowsUpdateAccess" if it exist.

Under the registry key
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion
\Group Policy Objects\LocalUser\Software\Microsoft\Windows\
CurrentVersion\Policies\Windows Update

delete the value "DisableWindowsUpdateAccess" if it exist.

If you deleted one or more values above, reboot your PC and try
the Windows Update site again.

I had an entry under ... explorer. That solved it. Thanks - Barun
