windows update distorted Msn messenger 7.5

right after i downloaded and installed a update for winxp (sp2) my msn
messenger did not work any more, msn messenger is vary important to me.
sooo... keep in mind that it was not the download of sp2, it was a update.
well so i reinstalled windows xp, and then the messenger worked, but then i
just had to walk into the mouse trap, and downloaded the damn updated again.
and now it does not work and i do not feel like reinstalling xp again, can
some one help me please!
