I am rebuilding a Dell computer. I installed the system and then XP Service
Pack 2. When I go to Windows updates and select Custom, I receive

The website has encountered a problem and cannot display the page you are
trying to view.

I set the security level in IE6 down to medium-low, but no better results.
What is bloocking the link? Thank you.

Arthur,

That's a generic error message. Open the WindowsUpdate.log located in
%windir% and scroll down towards the bottom, although if the system has
just been rebuilt it shouldn't be that long, for the most recent error
message. The error code will be in this format 0x00000000.
Post back with the specific error code generated when you click the
Custom button please. It will be time stamped as to when this was done.

Which firewall/ antivirus/ security suite is being used ?

Good suggestion. First, I have put new memory in the computer, since the
original may be defective. I am rebuilding the system now. If the error
recurs, I will send in the error code from the log.

I am reinstalling the OS after putting in new memory chips. The computer
uses Windows firewall and AVG Free anti-virus.
