Windows Update Does not install current Updates

I have WinXP Pro running on Dell Laptop.

Recently I have downloaded and Installed Windows Defender Beta 2, replacing
Microsoft AntiSpyware Beta 1.

Recently the application has prompted me to update the definitions. But when
I click on the Check For Updates it generates the following error message.

Windows Defender was unable to complete the update:
0x80240022. The wrong diskette is in the drive. Insert %2
(Volume Serial Number: %3) into drive %1.

In windows Update history, for definitions update the error shown is
0x80244018

Moreover the normal update is also not working and it generates the below
error message.
0x80244018 for the Update Number KB892130,
which is for Windows Genuine Advantage Validation tool.

Can any one tell me what is the problem with Windows Automatic Update.

Please note that, recently my machine was infected with Adware, so I used
Adware SE-Personal to remove the adware from the machine.

Please advise.

This is a known issue and much-discussed in Windows Defender newsgroups.
Microsoft has established separate newsgroups for Windows Defender Beta2
support and comments. See

Sounds like Ad-aware wasn't enough to remove all hijackers.

When all else fails, HijackThis v1.99.1
(http://aumha.net/downloads/hijackthis.zip) is the preferred tool to use.
It will help you to both identify and remove any hijackware/spyware. **Post

Hello and small world. I believe the issue is with KB892130. I became
aware yesterday that Windows Update has been failing quietly on my personal
computer since February. I believe Microsoft is aware of the issue with
KB892130 -- which waterfalls down into all other Microsoft updates.
