Windows update doesn't remember I already installed update

I am running Windows 98 and have recently installed Cumulative Security
Update for Outlook Express 6 Service Pack 1 (KB837009) and 823559: Security
Update for Microsoft Windows. The installation was successful. But I keep
getting an update notification every few days telling me there is a new
critical update. When i ask to see the update then it finds the same two
updates again. If I check my installation history it claims that I have
succesfully installed these updates (three times now!).

What can I do to fix this?
