I received the same error number and tried the below among other numerous
unsuccessful attempts. I finally downloaded SP2. My updates started to
notify me for download. When I tried to download, it notified me of my
problem. An add on was interfering. After I disabled the add on, the
updates started working. The add on was the file ME2.dll (Mediapopups). To
disable, I went to internet explorer properties, programs tab, manage
add-ons. From there you can disable whichever ones you want. Worked for me,
same error code. Don't know if it would have worked without downloading SP2.
Good Luck!
