Windows Update Doesn't Work At All

I have Windows XP. I go to Windows Update and, whether I click Express
Install or Custom Install, I get the "We're sorry" page, and Error number:
0x80244001.

The Windows Update Troubleshooter doesn't have any answers and the Assisted
Support link says "Page cannot be displayed".

My network connection is working just fine. I can't figure out what's wrong,
or even how to get support.

Any help is appreciated. Thanks,

Jeff;
Register MSXML3.dll
StartRun
Type "regsvr32 MSXML3.dll"
Click OK

Otherwise follow the Windows Update Checklist:

I received the same error number and tried the below among other numerous
unsuccessful attempts. I finally downloaded SP2. My updates started to
notify me for download. When I tried to download, it notified me of my
problem. An add on was interfering. After I disabled the add on, the
updates started working. The add on was the file ME2.dll (Mediapopups). To
disable, I went to internet explorer properties, programs tab, manage
add-ons. From there you can disable whichever ones you want. Worked for me,
same error code. Don't know if it would have worked without downloading SP2.
Good Luck!
