I forgot the most important question ... * do the updates install * ?
As far as the WU dialogue box not showing the size of the download ...
I really don't know. Could be a number of 'things' that are causing that
behavior.
Try this ... download the latest version of the Windows Update Agent :

Install it on all of the systems with no browser nor programs open.
If it were my network, I'd shut down everything for one minute and then
restart in this order ... broadband modem, router, PCs [boot the PC that
setup the network first] YMMV
Did that 'fix' the lack of dialogue ?
