windows update (error #0x80072EEF) using win 2000 sp4

Does anyone know what I need to do to fix this problem. Note this is a "new"
installation after a hard drive failure.

0x80072EEF (-2147012881) ERROR_INTERNET_LOGIN_FAILURE/
ERROR_INTERNET_CANNOT_CONNECT

Check your firewall software to make sure it’s not blocking Windows Update.

Another user solved the error (even though he wasn’t using a proxy server)
by opening the command prompt and typing:-

proxycfg -d
net stop wuauserv
net start wuauserv
