I'll try not to make this too long winded, but i seem to have stumbled
on some sort of solution to the above error.i have been unable to get windows
updates for over 2 months.in desperation i recently purchased error nuker
-2004 to try it. it cleared 72 errors on my pc ,and still the odd one when i
run it, but didn't make any difference as far as the windows updates was
concerned.Last week i updated my adobe acrobat reader to 7.0 as requested
from one of my account sites .Since then i have had several running problems
and quite a lot of crashes.
Yesterday i decided to uninstall all of my acrobat programs, inluding the
printshop ones, i also uninstalled a couple of other programmes that i don't
use,not sure what they were, and the crashing seems to have stopped. That was
until i tried to shut down last night, when system crashed and restarted by
itself. only when it restarted i was unable to use my wireless mouse.(genius)
i eventually managed to restart pc in last known good configuration using
an old mouse and keyboard but the wirless one still would not work(despite
receiver appearing to accept signals).
i decided to uninstall software for genius and reinstall it.
on doing so the mouse and keyboard started to operate correctly after
restarting. and i got a prompt that windows had some updates ready to install.
i installed them and restarted pc as prompted, then tried to run windows
update through the usual way and it ran correctly ,telling me that my pc was
up to date.it also allowed me to see the 7 updates that had just been
installed.
-- I don't really know what i have done, but it seems to me that either
something in the adobe programs was causing a problem or maybe something in
the wireless mouse software had clashed with it,either way it is working now
without me changing anything anywhere else.
as i'm sure you will have guessed i am not very computer literate, but maybe
somebody with a little more knowledge could look at the problem from this
angle.no doubt i will have to reinstall acrobat 7 at some stage, at which
point i will leave a 'shorter' message, letting you know how it goes.
Ihope this is some use to somebody, and a big thankyou to everyone who tried
to help me before.
Thanks in advance. Gary
