Windows update error 0x80245003 after system recovery

Accidently did a system recovery instead of restore, now I cannot update
windows xp i get 0x80245003 error. Also I don't think that I have the service
pack 1, 1a or 2 on my system anymore. I have the sp 2 disk but where can I
get the sp 1. A friend of mine thinks that the sp1 is included in the sp2 is
this true?

Your friend is correct. SP2 incorporates all that SP1 had, plus the
then-newest fixes to XP.

A user does not need to have SP1 installed in order to install SP2. However,
after SP2 is installed you'll still need to install something like 70
additional fixes that have been released since SP2.

You can skip SP1 and install SP2, then all post-SP2 updates.
