windows update error 800A138F

We have two Win 2000 SP4 and four Win XP machines here ( XP are SP1, SP2, and
Media Center 2005). Up to 15 October 2006 Windows Update has been used to
successfully download and install updates. Since then, all of these machines
get the same error message when attempting to access the update list.

(1) Exactly what does error code 800A138F mean?
(2) What have you changed on your end since that date to affect all of these
machines?

I have perused this forum for discussion of this error message; a long
thread starting on 7/30/2006 did not resolve the issue for that user, to say
the least. Both the BITS and the AU services are running under the local
system account on all of these machines.

Try reregistering jscript.dll on the affected systems

Start > Run > type in

regsvr32 jscript.dll

Click OK or press Enter

Also, check the systems time to be sure they are accurate.
