aI continue to have problems installing updates and get the error core
0x80246008. When I run through all of the microsoft suggested fix's, I
continue to get a "Service-Specific Error Code -2147024891" when I try to
manually start the BITS. When I serch for this "Service-Specific Error code"
I find nothing. I am lost as to where to go from here. Can Anyone help??

Error 2147024891 when starting BITS
Error 0x80246008 during the download process - BITS not enabled

Quote: Narayana Mahankali [MSFT]

Open a command prompt window, and key in (or copy/paste):
rd /q /s "%ALLUSERSPROFILE%\Application Data\Microsoft\Network\Downloader"
hit ENTER

Now key in:
net start BITS
and hit ENTER

<end quote>

if that didn't work

Click Start, select Run, then type in: SERVICES.MSC
Make sure the "Remote Procedure Call (RPC)" is started and on automatic.

Bits won't start:-

If you have tried everything else, check and see if you have the following key in the
registry, this has worked for some users:

Open regedit and navigate to the following registry key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\BackupRestore\

Now create the following key if it does not exist:
FilesNotToBackup

Result should look like this:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\BackupRestore\FilesNotToBackup\

Try and start BITS again...

Some users have found that re-registering these dlls has fixed their problem:-

Click Start, Select Run and type: (clicking OK after each one and waiting for the
successful message)

regsvr32 oleaut32.dll
regsvr32 jscript.dll
regsvr32 vbscript.dll
regsvr32 msxml.dll
regsvr32 softpub.dll
regsvr32 wintrust.dll
regsvr32 initpki.dll
regsvr32 cryptdlg.dll

Reboot and try starting BITS again.
