Windows update error message 0x80248011

Windows update failing with 0x80248011 problem .
WinXP/Pro SP 1. Did both things suggested --- cleared
internet cache (step 1) and recreated
c:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution (step 2). Didn't work.
Also tried the workaround in Microsoft Knowledge Base
article 830086 even though I had not done either of the
two things the article says causes the problem. It
didn't help.

Any more ideas out there?
