I have a Dell laptop, and I updated my Ie6 to Ie7. I went to Windows
Update, and the Windows Update window wond allow me to update or search for
any updates.

I got the error message x80245003. What is that? I have never had this
problem before. How can I resolve the issue? I need updates from windows
periodically to keep my computer operating successfully.

Can anyone help?

Error message when you try to install updates by using the Windows Update Web
site: "0x80245003"
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/919749/EN-US/

If that doesn't help:-
Rename the SoftwareDistribution folder (it will be recreated next time you
visit WU again)
You will lose your history but that's not important.

Click Start, Choose Run.
In the Run box, type services.msc.
Click OK.
Right-click the Automatic Updates service.
Click Stop.
Stopping the service will take a moment.

Rename the "SoftwareDistribution" folder:
a. Click Start, click Run, type %systemroot%, and then click OK.
b. Right-click the SoftwareDistribution folder, and then click Rename.
c. Type SoftwareDistribution.old, and then press ENTER to rename this folder.

Click Start. Choose Run.
In the Run box, type services.msc.
Click OK.
Right-click the Automatic Updates service.
Click Start.
Starting the service will take a moment.

If you need to reinstall the ActiveX controls (because they may have become
corrupt):-

Follow this article -
The Windows Update Web site and the Microsoft Update Web site do not scan
for updates when you repair a failed installation of Windows XP Service Pack
2 or of Windows XP Service Pack 1
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/916259

Note: WU Client 3.0 - Windows Update Agentthe article mentions the old one)
http://download.windowsupdate.com/v7...gent30-x86.exe

or for the 64 bit version
http://download.windowsupdate.com/v7...gent30-x64.exe

You can delete the old folder that you renamed after you have completed your
updates.

Hi,
The solution below will fix the issue, but before you try the steps, can you
please share the following logs from the machine?

1. C:\Windows\Windowsupdate.log
2.
C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\WuRedir\9482F4B4-E343-43B6-B170-9A65BC822C77\wuredir.xml
3.
C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\WuRedir\7971F918-A847-4430-9279-4A52D1EFE18D\wuredir.xml
(if it exists)

Thanks
Sudheer

To resolve the issue, I recommend that you contact Microsoft support by
following the steps in
http://support.microsoft.com/oas/def...spx?gprid=6527

There is no charge for support issues with Windows Update.
It would be great if you can post back to the newsgroup about how the issue
was resolved.

I cant get updates. I keep and error message number: 0x80245003. I have
tried the Workaround method avdised on the Windows Update site, but no luck
with that. I also tried what you suggested below. When I tried to rename the
Software Distribution File I got an error message saying, Access Denied. I
hope you can help me, please.
