I have Windows Vista Home Premium Edition and use Office 2007. I keep trying
to install these updates but they fail to install. I have rebooted my
notebook laptop on several occassions but its effect has yet to be seen. The
updates are Definition Update for Windowns Defender - KB915597 (Definition
1.18.2632.5) and Update for Outlook 2007 (KB933493). The error messages are
Code 80070714 and Code 80070643. When I follow the link for "get help" for
the latter code it provides the following:

Windows Update error 80070643

If you receive Windows Update error 80070643 while installing updates for
Microsoft Office 2003, you might need to restart the Office Source Engine
(OSE) service. Windows Update can automatically start the service to install
updates for Office products if the service is set to the default Manual
setting. If the service is disabled, you need to restart it, and then try to
install the latest updates for Office products again.

To restart the Office Source Engine (OSE) service
You must be logged on as an administrator to perform these steps.

Click to open Administrative Tools.

Double-click Services. If you are prompted for an administrator password or
confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

If the Office Source Engine service is disabled, double-click it to open the
service properties.

Click the Startup type list, and then click Automatic (Delayed Start).

Under Service status, click Start.

If the problem persists after you take these steps, see this Knowledge Base
article on the Microsoft Help and Support website, or see Troubleshoot
problems with installing updates.

Help and Support search term: WindowsUpdate_80070643

However, I had a problem installing an update previously and have already
done this and I checked the settings and they remain enabled with delayed
start. Looking through the knowledge base and such has not provided much
information or solutions.

So if anyone knows how I can install the 2 updates your help would very much
be appreciated.

Thanks...

Try this ... manually download the updates and save them, do NOT run them:

How to manually download the latest definition updates for Windows Defender
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/923159

Under More Information, click the download link for either the 32 or 64
bit link

Update for Outlook 2007 (KB933493
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...3-C4C47539DF66

CLick the Continue button to pass Validation and then download the
update for Vista
After the downloads are completed close the browser and any other open
programs
*Right click* the downloaded files and choose " Run as Administrator "
Click through the UAC prompts

Did that get them installed ?

It worked for the windows defender update but with the outlook 2007 update a
problem occurs (but it's never specified) forcing the install to shut down.

You guys sound like you know whwat you're talking about. My code 80070714
does not allow me to download any updates either. Could this be that I'm
running Office 2003 Professional?
