Windows Update fails with error: 0x80004002 and 0x8024400D

After update of WXP from SP1 SP2, WINDOWS UPDATE does not function any more. When I activate (manually or automatically) WUPD, it returns the list of the updates, it downloads needed files; but it fails to install updates. However the manual installation of the downloaded files works fine!
An examination of "WindowsUpdate.log" shows 2 errors:

First):
2007-08-04 14:14:08:484 1180 aa4 PT WARNING: SyncUpdates failure, error = 0x8024400D, soap client error = 7, soap error code = 300, HTTP status code = 200
2007-08-04 14:14:08:484 1180 aa4 PT WARNING: SOAP Fault: 0x00012c

2007-08-04 14:15:37:328 3740 ea4 AUClnt FATAL: Error: 0x80004002. wuauclt handler: failed to spawn COM server
2007-08-04 14:15:38:531 1180 9dc Handler FATAL: 0x80004002: ERROR:
Remote update handler container process created (PID: 3740),but exited before signaling event

A research on the site of Microsoft for error: 0x8024400D returns: "0x8024400D WU_E_PT_SOAP_CLIENT Same have SOAP_E_CLIENT - SOAP customer found the message was malformed; fix before resending."!?
How can I correct this message? I'm thinking some DLL are wrong; but which?

The error 0x80004002 does not seem related to WUPD, but with authorization failure. How I don't see any record in the security or system event log.

Could you help me or must I reinstall windows XP - SP2 from scratch ?
Does anybody know if a list of Windows error code is available on the net?

Suggest cleaning up the system (clearing out all the Temp/Tmp folders, and
included all offline content, clearing the browser TIF, Delete Cookies , do a
Disk CleanUp.

Please confirm your system clock and Time Zone also the Date set properly,
Having it set incorrectly can cause this type of behavior.

You didn't say, or at least it's not clear, whether you tried getting the
updates using Internet Explorer, by going here:

http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/

Some new ActiveX software has to be installed on XP before your computer can
be scanned.

Just follow the prompts to do so, but it should then list and download the
same updates, and install them, as those you see in the taskbar notification.

If going to the site is successful, keep going back until there are no more
critical updates to install.

scan has frozen. DAF is actually doing lots of shoveling and shuffling, so

Thanks for your help. I already "cleanup" my system: temporary files,
cookies, etc, ... To answer your question, I run windows Update by using the
Windows Update program in the start menu. It's this program that call the
faulty (Error: 0x8024400D, soap client error = 7) Web Service ! I don't
know if this error is responsible for the failure of installation, or if it
is the second ( AUClnt FATAL: Error: 0x80004002 ). I think this last error
has some thing to do with an authorization failure but I'm not sure.

Hey, Joel, several others got this to fix their indiv. problems--may fix
yours too. s.
1. Click on Start and then click Run,
2. In the open field type "REGSVR32 WUAPI.DLL" (without quotation marks) and
press Enter.
3. When you receive the "DllRegisterServer in WUAPI.DLL succeeded" message,
click OK.
4. Please repeat these steps for each of the following commands:
REGSVR32 WUAUENG.DLL
REGSVR32 WUAUENG1.DLL
REGSVR32 ATL.DLL
REGSVR32 WUCLTUI.DLL
REGSVR32 WUPS.DLL
REGSVR32 WUPS2.DLL
REGSVR32 WUWEB.DLL..........sdlomi2

This is great! Worked for me after I and to use my recovery disc when my
system crashed and then my Windows updater/Defender would no longer install
updates.
