Thank you for taking the time to send those links.

I had previously found the same information. I took the steps listed at
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=836985.
They did not help.

The server is not running ISA Server, so the second link is not relevant to
our situation.

Your error indicates "server reponse could not be parsed".

Questions for you to cover possibilities:
Was your system recently infected with crudware & did you clean it up?
Is it possible your Winsock has been corrupted?
