Windows Update fails to install .NET 1.1 SP1

Ever since this .NET 1.1 SP1 came out, my web based windows update
always fails to install it.

The item is:
Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 Service Pack 1

The error is:
Fatal Execution Engine Error 0x7927baca

I have found other reports of this problem, but no solutions.

I'm running Windows XP Home SP2, all latest updates installed (except
..NET 1.1 SP1), I also have Automatic Updates enabled in the Security
Center. I have virus scanned, Adawared, Spybotted and HijackThise - no
problems found.

If anyone knows how to resolve this windows update issue, please can
they post the solution.

I had already tried that. I don't have either Microsoft .NET Framework
Hotfix 1.0 (KB886906) or Microsoft .NET Framework Hotfix 1.1 (KB886904)
installed listed in my "Currently installed programs and updates".

Any other ideas?
