Windows Update failure - Error number: 0x80070715 - xp sp2 - brand

I have a brand new machine and cannot use windows update - 'The website has
encountered a problem and cannot display the page you are trying to view'
with Error number: 0x80070715.

This is brand new, just installing on the network now, so cannot be due to a
prev failed update process - this is the first windows update I have run on
the machine.

Only updates on the machine at present are those that came preinstalled, and
cannot be removed.

Any suggestions - i don't really want to have to rebuild the machine!

Unfortunately this didn't work.... When trying to install the agent, I got
the following error:

Windows update agent installer Fatal Error
Windows update agent installer encountered unrecoverable error.

Didn't seem to have made any difference after reboot.

Any other suggestions?
