I have Windows XP Professional edition.

Whenver I try windows update from

http://v5.windowsupdate.microsoft.co....aspx?ln=en-us

I tried both Express Install and Custom Install

I get the following message:

-------------------------------

[Error number: 0x800A01AD]
Windows Update has encountered an error and cannot display the requested
page. You may find the following resources helpful in resolving the problem:
For self-help options:

Windows Update Response Center

Windows Update Troubleshooter

---------------------------------------------

This problem started happening after I updated to version 5 of windows
update. Now my Windows Installer also does not seem to function. I tried
registering all the dll's refered to in the Windows Update newsgroups on this
error message like

regsvr32.exe wuapi.dll
regsvr32.exe wups.dll
regsvr32.exe wuaueng.dll
regsvr32.exe wucltui.dll
regsvr32.exe msxml3.dll
net.exe start wuauserv

I also tried To Reset Security Settings Back to the Defaults as described in
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=313222 and ran the following line on
commpn prompt
secedit /configure /cfg %windir%\repair\secsetup.inf /db secsetup.sdb /verbose

I am attaching the last few lines of my WindowsUpdate.log file as requested
in some other posts:

When searching for available updates on the Windows Update site, you see the
0x800A01AD error while looking for updates

http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;836926
Updates from the Windows Update Web site are not installed and an "Error 0x80070005:
Access is denied" error message is logged to the Windows Update.log file

This error message may occur if you have insufficient permissions to the Windows
Update registry keys. The WindowsUpdate.log file will also read errors 0x80070005 and
0x80080005.
