Windows Update Failure - Sound

I recently checked for updates on Windows Update.

I tried to update my driver which it stated as the update being (Conexant
Systems Inc - Sound - Conexant AC-Link Audio) December 04

Everything is downloaded until it comes to the installation and at this
point it tells me that "Updates were unable to be successfully installed" and
"The following updates were not installed" - being the above.

My computer is a Notebook - Compaq nx9020 40Gb 235Mb RAM Onboard sound and
graphics.

I've tried the troubleshooter but couldn't find anything. Can anybody help.
