Windows Update Failures: 0x80070246 HELP! What is that error?

Hi there,

If I should post this somewhere else, please let me know. This just seemed
like the best place to start.

I am currently having issues with 6 updates failing. It was 5 until the
release today of the DreamScene preview, but now that is failing too. All
the failures have the same error code ( 0x80070246) which I have searched
high and low for every place I can think of and I have found nothing
specifying what this error is. There are several mentioned in Help & Support
and I tried even checking if any of those resolutions might help but I am
stumped.

The relevant portion of the update log is below. I am currently running
Vista Ultimate, machine specs also below.

If anyone else has had this problem or anyone knows what that error means, I
would be very grateful for some assistance.

Hi Darrell,

Thanks for the fast reply. I pulled some of the log you suggested file from
my most recent attempt. All 5 of these updates that are failing appear to
have the same problem. The sample below is from the DreamScene porition of
trhe install.

Any further guidance you can offer would be greatly appreciated.

The install is not looking good.
Can I get this file sent to me?

00.16386_none_07289f4cca5f6990\globalinstallorder. xml
Compress it if possible and you need to rename the extension. xml files
get deleted by my email server.
Remove the online from my email address.

globalinstallcatalog.xml file.
