Windows Update failures for Office 2007 - with Office 2003 error m

When I attempt to install:

Security Update for the 2007 Microsoft Office System (KB969618)
Microsoft Office Compatibility Pack Service Pack 2 (SP2)
Security Update for the 2007 Microsoft Office System (KB969613) and
Security Update for the 2007 Microsoft Office System (KB969679)

They all fail with an error code of 0x80070643 and a message of

"Microsoft Office Professional Edition 2003 is not installed. Setup cannot
continue."

I tried the suggested remedation in "find solutions" to no avail. Have no
clue how to address... would appreciate any valid pointers.

Running WinXP SP3 w/Office 2007 installed - don't think Office 2003 has ever
been on this machine so am very puzzled. In any case, shouldn't an Office
2007 installer not care about that?
