Windows Update Files - Unusual File Size 22.09MB

I have downloaded several updates for XP with Windows Update. Most of these
files are under 1MB in size, which I have verified w/ the bitrate/download
time.

After these updates are (automatically) installed, Add/Remove programs
(Control Panel) indicates that almost all update file sizes are now 22.09MB,
some are slightly more.

Is windows update really wasting hundreds of MB's of my hard drive w/ "null"
file space? What gives?

No, it does not.

The MB indications in the Add/Remove Programs are not to be trusted...
