I haven't done updates in months, so i decided to catch up a few days ago.
Everytime I try to install updates, it fails (error code 80200010). Over the
last few days I've been able to get a few through, but im down to my last
nine and they wont install:

MS Tinker, DreamScene Content Packs #1, #3, #5 & Favorites, Defender Update
kb915597, Excel 2007 Help Update kb957242, Chinese Simplified and Traditional
Language Packs.

After doing this a few thousand times, I finally noticed that my home wifi
connection was disconnecting right before windows update cancels the
installations, so im pretty sure windows update itself is disconnecting my
internet, or perhaps a background-running program. I'm positive it's not a
connection issue, routers and adapters are all fine. If it's not windows
update, I'm guessing it may be anti-virus software? I'm running Vista 64bit
Ultimate on an HP tx1000z, AVG anti-virus suite 7.5.549, windows firewall &
defender.

Any help?

Is Automatic Updates enabled? If not, why?

If "AVG anti-virus suite" is AVG Internet Security or AVG
Anti-Virus+Firewall, disable the Windows Firewall. (Is your AVG subscription
current, Jovanna?)

If still no joy...

Run a /thorough/ check for hijackware, including posting your hijackthis log
to an appropriate forum.

When all else fails, HijackThis v2.0.2
(http://aumha.org/downloads/hijackthis.exe) is the preferred tool to use (in
conjunction with some other utilities). HijackThis will NOT fix anything on
its own, but it will help you to both identify and remove any
hijackware/spyware with assistance from an expert. **Post your log to
http://spywarehammer.com/simplemachi...php?board=10.0,
http://forums.spybot.info/forumdisplay.php?f=22,
http://aumha.net/viewforum.php?f=30, or another appropriate forum for review
by an expert in such matters, not here.**

If the procedures look too complex - and there is no shame in admitting this
isn't your cup of tea - take the machine to a local, reputable and
independent (i.e., not BigBoxStoreUSA or Geek Squad) computer repair shop.
