Windows update freezes and nothing happpens

I click on windows update icon and then it goes to the following url
:http://v5.windowsupdate.microsoft.co....aspx?ln=en-us

Then it says the following info:
Checking for the latest version of the Windows Update software...

Depending on your connection speed, this might take a minute. During this
time, you may receive one or more security warnings. Review each security
warning to ensure that the content is signed by Microsoft, and then click
Install or Yes to install the software.

And it stays like that forever and it does not scan my computer...so it
means I might have a lot of updates that I haven't installed due to this
issue.

Try registering the following:

Click Start, select Run and type (pressing enter after each one and wait for
the
success message):

net.exe stop wuauserv
Press Ok

Repeat for the following:
regsvr32 wuapi.dll
regsvr32 wups.dll
regsvr32 wuaueng.dll
regsvr32 wucltui.dll
regsvr32 msxml3.dll
regsvr32 atl.dll

net.exe start wuauserv

Also see:
This error may occur if the WUAUSERV and BITS services are not configured
properly in the registry (link may wrap to 2 lines)

I'm no genius, but I'm pleased your problem has been solved for now.
