HI,
i created a ghost image of a machine, which i deployed onto a new pc.

my problem is that when i go to run windows update, it runs through the
process, finds a lot of updates, but then fails to run the update.

the pc i took the image off would have had the latest updates, but on the
new pc it looks like the windows update wont work.

Any ideas on how to sort this?

im using windows xp as the OS

Windows XP what? (Home, Professional, Media Center, Tablet PC, x64, etc...)

(Ignore the title...)

Updates are not installed successfully from Windows Update,
from Microsoft Update, or by using Automatic Updates after
you repair a Windows XP installation
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/943144

Reboot after each method.

Visit http://windowsupdates.microsoft.com/ and do a custom scan for updates.
If it asks you to update anything/install anything upon visiting
(immediately) - do so and agree to things. Then continue with a CUSTOM
scan.

Do *not* get drivers (hardware) and whether or not you get Software
(Optional) is as it indicated - optional. Do get Critical updates.

Come back - let us know.
