Windows Update gives me "Error: 0x800A0046" I have used the Microsoft
Knowledgebase article " When searching for available updates on the Update
site, you receive the 0x800A0046 error" to try and resolve this but solutions
1 and 3 are already set this way on my computer. I tried solution 2 but I
could not enter the entire command line..system would only allows so many
characters just short of the complete command string. I have Automatic
Updates set and they stopped working about 1 - 1.5 months ago, which is when
I discovered the related Windows Update problem. Are there any other
solutions to this problem?

I'm using Windows 2000 5.00.2195 SP 4. The hard drive is FAT32, not NTFS.

I looked at the Windows Update Log and the last few lines are:
----

---
Looking up error 0X80070005 gave me the article "When searching for
available updates on the Update site, you see the 0x800A01AD error while
looking for updates" and it gave a solution for XP and Windows Server 2003
about permissions on the
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\WindowsUpdate
key but I don't have this as an available option on my Edit menu (FAT32 vs.
NTFS?).

Are there any other known solutions to this problem?

Rich my problem was simalar, IO fought it for a month, finaly my server
helped me in 20 second.

Give this a try. Internet Explorer, Choose tools tab, then Internet Options,
if worded that way. Then Connections, next window, Choose settings. UNCHECK
the Proxy Server box, it should say something like, Use proxy server for this
connection, however if you click onto the advance settings it says,
exceptions, do not connect to Windows updates, forget about that page,

Unchecking that box and go directly to windows updates, you will now have to
download the new active x somftware to use the sight, You may have to
uncheck that box every time, I do. Good luck Save that fix
