Windows Update: Handler install completed with 0x8007f00d

I tried installing today's updates, but all failed with this message in the
windowsupdate.log:

Handler install completed with 0x8007f00d

Nothing on KB, but Google Groups shows this could be some "protection". AV,
Anti-spyware?

Anyone could provide some guidance if this is the case? I am running Avast
Server, and Windows Defender. I am not sure this is the problem, but if
anyone had this fixed by disabling these during update, I'd like to know.

TIA

Disable all anti-virus, anti-malware, third-party firewall, download
accelerator applcations. Then try the updates again. Does that solve your
problem?

Should I remove the downloaded files? If so, where are they kept?

Hi Mauricio

0x8007F00d -2146963443 STATUS USER CANCELLED Setup canceled.

There was a couple of solutions posted on this thread, especially the last
one.
Might be worth a look.

Try right clicking on the IE icon on your desktop/Properties, click on
the Delete Files button and check where it says Delete all offline
content, click on OK and then try the updates again with both Defender
and Avast disabled.

The updates if downloaded would be (XP) under
windows\softwaredistribution\downloads folder.
There would be folders in there with the individual updates. This usually
clears in about 10 days.
Try a manual install with your protection turned off? You could install the
manually downloaded updates offline.
