I have been trying to download from windows updates for weeks and it stops at
checking for the lastest version of windows update software. I'm running
WinXP pro, SP2 installed. Running Norton Antivirus, which could be stopping
the scan. Tried alot of troubleshooting. Sent reports to microsoft with no
replies from them. I can download from other websites. I need help Please!

I'm having the same problem, but I haven't successful loaded SP2. Now,
"Install Updates" isn't available.

I'm also having the same problem and therefore havent been able to install
SP2; not only does the Window Update stall but the "View Installation
History", as well as and the "Install Updates" aren't available. I've run
spyware and virus scan programs (Spybot & Mcafee), but to no avail. Prior to
noticing the problem, Windows Update was set on automatic and worked fine.

Same problem here. (And now some of the links in the left pane are a bunch
of rectangles instead of words).

I had to reinstall my XP SP1 after trying to install SP2 with too many
services disabled, but that's rather unimportant.

I've scanned for spyware and virusses (both negative), and Blaster and
Sasser patches are installed.

Hi

You could try the steps in this post to try to get WU to work:

http://groups.google.com/groups?selm...TNGP14.phx.gbl

If nothing there worked, try the steps in this post:

http://groups.google.com/groups?selm...tngp13.phx.gbl

If that didn't work either, and you have Windows XP SP2 installed,
check that the WuWebControlClass is enabled in Internet Explorer:
http://groups.google.com/groups?thre...0microsoft.com

Here are some more steps you can try if the above was of no help:

"Software update incomplete" error message when you visit the
Windows Update Web site
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=319585

You cannot install some updates or programs
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=822798

Windows Update Is Not Installed
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=811269

to those of you who could not download sp2, I ordered the cd to install it on
my computer. I have not yet had the chance to try Torgeir suggestions.
Thanks for your help

Thank You! Thank You! Thank You! I went to the first post
http://groups.google.com/groups?selm...TNGP14.phx.gbl
Did the first suggestion, Start Run etc... and all my frustration left when
I saw the next page. I have downloaded and installed twice( just to make
sure) and it's working.

Count my thanks as well; by following the first instruction set, my Windows
Update feature returned and I was able to install SP2. Thanks again

yes im having the same problems the as all the rest that i have read so for
nothing works on updates from the microsoft website since service pack2
firewall is on but im also got McAfee and zone alarmpro and there is a
firewall on my 2WIRE so it could possible be to many firewalls stoping these
lastest updates that im seeing and not able to download even though i have my
updates on with my computer and i almost go to there website everyday just to
check for updates my computer runs fine as of the moment. there are no known
viruses on it.I'm thinking that service pack2 firewall might be the main
problem, but who what's to go on the internet and have that unchecked
