Windows Update Hangs While looking for updates

Hi there,

I am wondering if anyone can help with this. We have a customer who can't
use Windows updates. We have done research on this issue and still can't get
the machine to get passed the "Checking if your computer has the latest
version of Windows Updating software..." Screen. I have tried resetting the
update software by running the IUCTL software from teh specified cab and if I
do that it reports that it is downloading the software which it does quicker
than normally and then it gets stuck on registering the software at 100% and
goes no further. If I close the browser at that point and go back the the
windows updates site, it gets stuck at the checking screen again. I am going
to include the error log from the windowsupdates.log file below and hopefully
someone can decipher it better than I. Thanks for your time.

Hi,

Please try this:

Click Start >> Run >>

Type the follow command in the Open box.
"net.exe stop wuauserv" (w/o quotes)
Press Ok

Repeat the same for the following commands:

regsvr32.exe wuapi.dll
regsvr32.exe wups.dll
regsvr32.exe wuaueng.dll
regsvr32.exe wucltui.dll
regsvr32.exe MSXML3.dll
net.exe start wuauserv

Now try the WU site again.


If the above didn't work out:

See if reinstalling the Windows Update Agent using the standalone
installer solves the problem.

Download location for WindowsUpdateAgent20-x86.exe
http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=43264

If it says "Install is not needed since Windows Update Agent is
already installed.", run the exe with the command line switch
/wuforce, like this:
