I get a message box that Windows Update has a problem... but no specific
error is mentioned nor is an error number nor is there any clue whatsoever as
to why I keep getting the same message over and over and over and over and
over...

What's wrong and how do I stop it? Please will someone NOT from Microsoft
answer my question because they obviously do not know how to provide useful
error message boxes.

Look in the Windows Update log for the specific error, Step 1 on this link.
http://www3.telus.net/dandemar/updtcl.htm

Follow the Windows Update Checklist to help remove any possible problems for
Windows Update.

I had the same problem. Knuckleheads from Microsoft were useless. Here's the
fix:

Go to Start>run>type "command."
Then type the following:
net stop wuauserv
cd /d c:\windows\SoftwareDistribution
rd /s DataStore
net start wuauserv

That should do it. At least it did for me.

Correction: In the first line of my instructions where I said type "command,"
you actually just type "cmd."

thanks. I'll give it a try. I had turned off Automatic Updates. I've
turned it back on now so I'll see if that was the problem by tomorrow.

If you mean the service "Automatic Update", that must be on whether you are
getting updates automatically or manually from the Windows Update site.
Otherwise it will fail.

CRAP! I've been having the same issue for two months and can't find ANYONE
to help me! I also tried doing the "command" fix you suggested and it didn't
help. I also have no idea what any of that might of done or did (??)
Looking through the sites and chat rooms, it seems A LOT OF PEOPLE ALL OVER
THE WORLD are having this problem. Can ANYONE give a "walk-through" fix for
us IT rookies out here who want our Microsoft Window Updates?

Here is "THE SITE" with "THE FIX" and the only apparent person on the planet
who is smart enough to figure it out. Thank you Fermu!
