"Kenneth Pinó",
Would you mind searching for a few files and settings and replying to this
post?
Conventions:
- In these instructions, keys on the keyboard are wrapped, such as: <Enter>,
so an instruction of: Type: cmd <Enter> means type the three letters cmd and
then press <Enter>.
- Combinations such as <Ctrl>+<S> mean to hold the <Ctrl> while then
pressing the <S>.
- When accessing the registry, the word "Expand" means to click on the plus
sign in front of any given key.
Please open the registry and check for the following value:
1. Click Start
2. Click Run
3. Type: regedit <Enter>
4. In the registry window, click in the left-hand pane, Expand
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
5. Expand System
6. Expand CurrentControlSet
7. Expand Control
8. Click on the Windows key
9. In the right-hand pane, double-click the CSDVersion key
10. In the Value Data, what is the value (hexadecimal or decimal)?
11. Please close the Registry Editor
Please search for the following files and provide the versions:
1. Click Start
2. Click Search
3. Click "All Files and Folders"
4. Choose the single local hard drive that has the Windows directory.
5. Copy and paste the following into the "All or part of the file name:"
netdde.exe,nddenb32.dll,xpsp1hfm.exe,winlogon.exe
6. Click Search
7. No matter where the files are found, we are interested only in those
files in the System32 folder, located directly "below" the Windows folder.
8. For each one of these files, in your reply, please list:
a. The name of the file found. (Ex: nddenb32.dll)
b. The version of the file, by right-clicking on it, then clicking
properties, then the Version tab. The file version should be something
like: 5.1.2600.149
Please reply back with this information, and we'll do our best to figure out
where your installation went wrong.
Sincerely,
Pat Walters [MSFT]
