Windows Update Icon removal

I cannot get rid of the Windows update icon. It keeps telling me that I have
an update ready to be installed. This "update" is IE7 which I really do not
want at this time. How can I get rid of the IE7 update, cancel it or delete
it for now. I still do want to receive Windows updates (patches, tools,
etc.), but I don't want IE7 just yet.
I'd appreciate any advice or assistance.
