Howdy ... is McAfee monitoring the system at the same time as AVG is ?
Running two antivirus programs concurrently is asking for trouble.
The failure of the System File Checker to run and the message it gives
indicates that either the OS needs to be repaired or reinstalled.
You could try an 'in place upgrade' which should/would preserve your
saved docs and software.

In any case, desired data should be backed up on a regular schedule so
that you don't lose it.
Burn them to a CD/DVD or an external USB drive ASAP !
Prior to attempting an 'in place upgrade', uninstall McAfee, and run
their removal tool afterwards to ensure no traces of it are left:

If you choose to reformat and reinstall, the first thing to do
afterwards is to uninstall McAfee from Add/Remove Programs in the
Control Panel, then run their removal tool.
Prior to installing AVG, allow the system to install needed updates, no
more than 4 or at a time, reliablity and performance updates installing
first, then the Security updates, next.
After installing all of the above, then install AVG.
The system will definitely perform more reliably if you do the above.
