Windows Update installation moving at the speed of cold molassas

I formatted my harddrive and reinstalled Windows XP. I'm now installing the
first batch of critical updates using the express install. The download was
quick, but the installation is taking hours. It's not hanging, just for some
reason it takes 30 minutes to install each update.

After 2 hours I'm at this point

Any ideas what's causing the problem?

You should have bypassed them all and just installed SP2.
