Windows Update Installation Not Responding

Hello!

I am having problems installing any fixes or updates to my PC. I have
Windows XP Pro SP1 and use broadband for internet connection. I can download
updates, fixes and patches from Windows Update website. But, when it is time
to install, all I get is Initializing Installation... and there is no
reponse. The progress bar for installing doesn't appear. Turning off
anti-virus, firewall and spyware checker has no affect. When I cancel the
update, there is no response.

Any help will be appreciated.
