Windows update installation problems

Hi I have a dell system with windows XP service pack two.

Yesterday I have to do a restore to original settings. Most of the updates
then worked but I have three that won't install.

Windows Defender Definition Update 1.14.1436.4 for BETA Windows Defender

The error code is 0x80244018

Any advice will be much appreciated.

See if you can install KB910437 by downloading it from here, saving it,
closing IE, and then attempt installing it :
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en

If the installation fails, look for a KB910437.log that will be located
in the WINDOWS directory (folder) and post the contents of that log into
your reply, please.

Can't get the windows defender to work. Even when I reinstall it, it doesn't
want to update. I try to do it from wondows update and I get 0x80240022.

Do Step 1 listed here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/915105
Then visit Windows Update ( not Microsoft Update ) and click the Express
Install button after the initial scan has finished.

If that fails, copy&paste this into the Address field and click Go :
http://au.download.windowsupdate.com...805b163eb2.exe

Save the download to the Desktop. Close IE and then double click it to
install.
Please try the method laid out for KB915105 first to see if that
resolves the updating issue.
