Windows Update Installs Fail on WinXP Home

Can someone take a look at this log, and figure out for me why WU will
download updates, and them after trying to install them, simply report that
it couldn't?

The updates will install manually if I download them from the ms
download centre but on auto update or the update website it does not
work.

Wondering if anybody has come across a fix to this yet ?

After spending most of yesterday trying to get the manual Windows Update
to work, I set it on automatic and shut the machine off. When I turned
it on today, it automatically installed about 20 updates that
successfully installed.

Now, if I manually go to Windows Update, the first update I get is SP2,
whereas yesterday I got 23 security updates.

If I do custom install, and go after the additional updates, and select
