windows update issues with Vista

I have a toshiba with vista home premium. Windows updates are set to
download and install at 3am every day. However, sometimes in mid morning
the computer shuts down to install updates. This completely upsets my day.

My other computer is also a toshiba with vist home premium and I never have
this happen.

I have looked at the setup and both computers are the same.

any ideas that might help?

The computer to shut down after installing the Updates is a normal behavior brought
on by the Updates. It needs to do this reboot as for the Updates to be installed
properly. The one that does not shut down after installing the Updates is the one
that has an issue and not the one that shuts down.. Check the settings on that one
and or the hardware to see why it does not shut down during the Updating process

Navigate to Control Panel Windows Update Change Settings (on left
panel) Choose a different option than the top one.

Based on your post, I would suggest considering "Download updates but let me
choose whether to install them."

That way you will be alerted whenever updates are available for you to
install. Then you can install critical security updates in a timely way that
does not disrupt your work flow.

While I am certain you would claim a M$ update never scrambled your
computer, quite a few up wait and let others test the patching.

I always turn off automatic update. And then 3 weeks after disruption
Tuedays, I load them with the knowledge that it has had testing. Many
business only test the lot once per year as not to bury the help desk in
calls for broken applications!

So you are into disruption Tuesdays? Is that when you run out of drugs?
