Did you just install one or more Windows Live applications, Microsoft
Security Essentials, and/or Silverlight? Installing any one of them will
automatically "flip" your to Microsoft Update (as stated in the EULA during
the installation process).
You will have to install the ActiveX Control before you can "flip" your
default back to Windows Update.
After having done so, go to Microsoft Update | Click on Change Settings in
left pane | Scroll to bottom of page | To Stop Using Microsoft Update |
Disable Microsoft Update software and let me use Windows Update only
(check).
