I have upgraded to XP Pro and have currently used the automatic update
feature to update Windows. I was able to install KB842773 (BITS) but cannot
access Windows Update(v5) or some other websites after installation. I have
restored by system prior to this installation. Are there other updates to
correct this?

"amanda",

Please do reinstall the BITS directly at the following website:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en

Please try to run Windows Update again following this installation. If it
fails, please post the log to the reply of this posting. Here's how:
a. Click Start
b. Click Run
c. Type or copy: %windir%\windowsupdate.log
d. Type the <Enter> key or click OK
e. After the log opens, move down to the bottom of the log by typing
<CTRL>
and the <End> keys.
f. Move up the log to the time you memorized earlier as the beginning of
the
attempt.
g. Select the beginning of the line for that time entry, and select
everything below it to the end of the log.
h. Press <CTRL> and then <C> key for copy.
i. Reply to this posting within the group.
j. After the window opens, Press <CTRL> and then <V> to paste the log
entries into the posting.
k. Tell us, at the top of the post, which download you attempted to
install.
l. Post the reply with the log entries.

Sincerely,

Pat Walters [MSFT]

Ive had V4 of the windows Update work perfectly but ever since the new
version 5 was brought out I was unable to make another update.
I have since resorted to setting up a sus server and that has worked
great and now am in the process of migrating to wus and testing that.

Also, many of the machines that I try and update always want to install
Bits again no matter how many install u do of it. It seems it doesnt
register that it is installed and appears again that the update is
ready. All have XP

"Eugene Wizzard"

The problem you are running into sounds like a registry entry fix. Could
you tell me which exact fix you were trying to download, and what error code
you started to get?

Thanks,
