This update has downloaded, but everytime I try to install it, it tells me
the update was unable to be installed successfully. I've rebooted several
times and retried, but I keep getting the same thing. And, the computer
keeps telling me it's ready to be installed. How can I get it to install
successfully, or remove it??

Hello Rhonda,

Is this that update that deals with the .net framework?

I have the same problem. My desktop is a Hewlett Packard. I spent 60$ for
them to tell me to call Microsoft and ask for a patch. What a can of beans.

I hope someone reads this and can help us out of this.

Thank you,

Tom

Hi Tom/Rhonda,

I had a similar problem and the solution was in first running Windows
Installer Clean up to remove the damaged .NET Framework since it refused to
uninstall using the add/remove programs route.
Once that was taken care of, a new download of dotnetfx.exe (and its'
service pack 1)
went in without any glitches. Then returned to Windows update and applied
the patch (KB 886903) without a problem.

Good luck!

These might help too.

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...DisplayLang=en

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...DisplayLang=en

The first is dotnet and the second is the service pack.

Gordie,

I've tried downloading and installing the Windows Installer Cleanup, but it
won't let me install, giving me error 1500...another installation is in
progress. I'm assuming this is the Windows Update still trying to install,
but I don't see a way to kill it.

Any ideas?

Thanks!
Rhonda

Rhonda,
I am not clear as to what you are having trouble uninstalling. Are you able
to remove the .net 1.1 framework? If you can then its just a matter of
installing a new download of dotnet and plugging in the service pack
afterwards. The patch (KB886903) won't be applied if the .net is corrupt.
Windows Install Clean up can be used to remove the corrupted .net 1.1
framework. When you run it .net appears in the list...you highlight it and
click remove. Do you have Windows Install Cleanup on your computer now?

Gordie,

What was happening was that I was trying to install Windows Install Cleanup
and it wouldn't install because of another installation running (the windows
update, I believe). I rebooted and was then able to successfully install
Windows Install Cleanup. Then I did everything else you said to do, and it's
all fine now!

Thanks so much!!
Rhonda
