Windows Update KB898461 Fails

Operating System: Windows XP SP2

I cannot install Windows Update KB898461.
Message:
"Problem: A problem on your computer is preventing updates from being
downloaded or installed..."
I have tried it manually and booting in safe mode as well. Below is a part
of the WindowsUpdate.LOG file:
Any suggestions??

To fix the issue with installing KB898461 simply rename the file:

c:\windows\system32\spupdsvc.exe

to

c:\windows\system32\spupdsvc.old

and then try the update again either through Windows Update or from the
full installer which can be downloaded here:

http://www.microsoft.com/downl oads/details.aspx?FamilyId=50C
334E1-9A6...

It should now complete successfully and allow you to start getting
other updates as well.
