The updater scans and tells me there is an update for outlook 2003 KB914454
but it has 0 kb and 0 time to download...What exactly does this mean? Is
there or isn't there an update?

Yeah, I think I know how to install the updates...Did you read my
post...amount of kb is 0....that means there is nothing to
install....installation time is indicated as o...again nothing to
install....I have tried to install this update four times without
success...You can't install an update if there is nothing in the update...

JJSMom,

Ensure that Outlook is closed.
Download the update from here :
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en
Close Internet Explorer.
Install the update.

If it still will not install, please copy&paste the KB914454.log that is
located in the WINDOWS directory.

Thanks for your help...I downloaded and saved the file then executed the file
and it still won't install...Where do I find the Windows directory? MY PC or
on Microsoft's site? and when I locate it where do I paste it to? Sorry I am
such a dummy but this is becoming very frustrating...

It shows 0 kb as an indication of how big the file is to download. If
it finds the update file already on your system, it will show 0 kb. I
was seeing the same thing. I was only able to get the update to
install when I ran the Help > Detect & Repair utility.

I found a solution that worked for my system (XP Pro/SP2 with Office 2003 and
all other updates). I didn't even realize that the "Windows Live Safety
Center" had been added to my system by some previous update, but sure enough
the folder was exactly where it is described below.

(My thanks to "abx2000", and especially "Claudeo", of the DSLReports Forums!)

=================================================

Problem fixed (at least apparently). The update worked after fixing the
registry.

<snip>

Here is how I fixed it without manually editing the registry:

Using Windows Explorer go to C:\Documents and Settings\(user
name)\Application Data\Windows Live Safety Center\BackUp and double-click the
..reg file created by the Microsoft Safety registry cleanup.

Notes: For sanity, I scanned the content of that .reg file to check it would
not revert something else to an unwanted state. I found no reference to the
installation CD (even though I had installed from CD) in any key or value.
The only Office sourcepath for which there were entries pointed to a long
gone temp directory. Also, there *are* some apparently deliberately
mislabeled registry entries that seem to contain the real keys required by
Office Update to work. The labeling is so obfuscated that the other
Microsofties who did the registry cleaner obviously did not realize what they
were for.

</snip>
